Eurotia

Krasheninnikovia

Eurotia (also called Teresken locally) is a semi bush and bush plant, its height ranges from 10 to 100 centimeter. There are two types of this plant (K. seratoides ва K. ewersmanniana) observed in Tajikistan. They are grown in stony and sandy land, plain, deserts and semi deserts; at altitude of 1000 -1400 meters above sea level. It is considered as one the favorable cattle forage in the Eastern Tajikistan. Leaves and stables of eurotia are well grazed by sheep, goat, horse and yaks. Also it is broadly used by local people as a fuel material that led to its reduction. Reduction of this plant became a reason for reduction or migration of wild goats from Murghob region. It protects soil from erosion in deserts and semi deserts and it is counted one of the important plants in the region.

Because of its over consumption, the Eurotia is on the brink disappearing in this territory, and it is now listed in the Red Book of Tajikistan (endangered species).
